Ah, here’s a better idea: spin the gnome but very slowly so that over several games you can make a statistical correlation between the gnomic azimuth and the hit rate. The plot definitely thickens ( or is that curdles?) …

I don’t know why but the first guy I thought of was Richie Hebner. Every time he would step in, he would reach around and tug on the back of his collar. Every time. Some guys have to undo then retighten the velcro on their batting gloves the same number of times between every pitch. Interesting stuff.
