In my article “Humility and How I Got It: Brown, Bryant, and the Evolution of “Humble” I suggested that Miller might be a suitable role model for some of the younger players. I quoted a […]

So many lessons and truths in one story. Where to begin? I loved Troys quote regarding sacrifice and also how Heath respected those who were serving him. It is very important to respect others no matter what job they do.

Couple of quotes from the Purpose Driven life;
“You weren’t put on earth to be remembered. You were put here to prepare for eternity.”
‘What did you do with your life – your gifts, talents, opportunities, energy, relationships, and resources God gave you’.

Never focus on temporary crowns. I think the men in this story would agree.

Particularly liked the bit about my fellow Canadian Shaun Suisham. Missed him badly in the first game, hope Scobee does not give us cause to miss him more starting this Sunday.

I like for the team to win, (I like it a lot, actually) but I love feeling I’m rooting for quality men. I also love the thought that the people the young guys will encounter in their Steelers career will help to shape and mold the ones who come in who are in need of assistance. I’m maybe overly optimistic, but I would hope that you couldn’t be completely unchanged when cheek by jowl with someone like Heath or Troy or Cameron or William Gay or any of the other high-character guys I had to skip over. I’m not foolish enough to think any of them are perfect, but I’m heartened to think they are, despite the temptations and pitfalls of fame, trying to live so as to be a credit to their team and families.

Excellent writing and a fine exposition of the character of these fine men. The players I really respect and enjoyed pulling for are typically humble all Troy, Heath, Charlie Batch, etc. or those who have overcome tremendous odds to make the Steelers, ala Sammie Coates, Barob Batch, Willie Gay and Ike ( I love the way he over came the benching by Cowher to become the Steelers’ #1 cover guy.

I am a Pollyanna in my Steelers fanaticism. It’s probably why I nearly melted down when we signed Vick. I like rooting for people I respect, even love. There are a lot of great men in the game and I enjoy learned nag about them and rooting for their success. While I marvel at the skill of AB and Ben, I’m more drawn to the others.
