I went into this game very cautious, because no matter what the records indicate, we should know by now that these games will always be close. I honestly think the first drive (going for it on 4th and 1) cost the Steelers the game.

My biggest fear was that the Steelers in general and Ben in particular wouldn’t take the game seriously enough until it was too late. I don’t know if that actually was the case but it certainly sounded like it.

I sincerely hope that it isn’t all over for this season but I am not holding out a lot of hope.

But I do think the team is more dependent than they should be on everything working optimally, and that isn’t a very good recipe for advancing in the playoffs. Not that the playoffs are terribly likely at this juncture…

We can, however, continue to blame him for the fact that we may well not make the playoffs.

I watched the game at a friend of my son’s house in CO. Also in attendance was younger son Edmund, who admitted that the Steelers had lost every time he watched a game in the past few years. (Fortunately he mostly can’t watch them.) After the game he apologized. I apologized, as I thought perhaps I hadn’t worn the right scarf, or had not set Stonn the Invincible correctly before leaving Pittsburgh. Donna, said friend, who is older than me and a typical displaced Pittsburgher, said “Maybe we should just blame the Steelers.” And you know, I think she’s right.

What a waste. Good teams don’t lose games like this. The wins against the Bengals and Broncos were illusions.
