Our coach and team again showed us they could handle mountains of adversity. Even with all the repeated misfortunes, upsets, setbacks and trauma experienced every week they remained resilient and came close to pulling off the improbable. As you stated Ivan you just need to look at the Ravens to see another possible outcome. I have come to expect this grit from a Mike Tomlin coached team. Next man up and the standard is the standard are not hollow creeds because time after time the players have proven those words have meaning to them. The deeds of the players have matched those creeds. No one lays down and quits on Coach T and if you do you had better change quickly or you probably won’t be around long. This team and these players won’t allow such nonsense. I expect great things next season but hell when you are lucky enough to root for the Steelers great is always the standard.

I really enjoyed the roller coaster of a ride this season. Each of the remaining members of the 2015 team contributed their best efforts to qualify for the playoffs and advance as far as they could go. This was a close knit team and I too will miss those players that laid the foundation for what we hope will be “Stairway to Seven”, yet will not enjoy the spoils.

Next season’s team will be different and I believe stronger with those that return from injury (#53, #26, #45, #5?, #68?, #6?, #28?, #76? and CB Golson) and those added through the draft and FA. I hope that the 2016 team can maintain that close knit bond that the 2015 team had. If so, SB51 could become a reality.

They’ll get more recognition after they retire. BB will be in the HOF. And heck… if Tomlin hangs around another 4-5 years…will he be approaching HOF status if he is still rocking the ‘no losing seasons’ track?

Nice write up Ivan, agree with you on seeing how the “other half” lives, I live in central Ky 100 miles south of Cincy and after watching what the Bungals fans have had to put with make me appreciate the Steelers every season. It’s frustrating that Ben and Coach T don’t get the recognition they deserve but life as a Steelers fan could be a hell of a lot worse. I just wish that folks would appreciate what we have while we have it…

Some of us have been around since the days in the eighties and early nineties when Washington was consistently relevant. Some in Steelers Nation could probably benefit from witnessing what fans of other teams, most other teams really, have to settle for. Can’t help but feel that many who claim to just being true to a high standard are just, in fact, being spoiled children. Skins fans used to be that way. They’ve been brought down a few pegs and singing a different tune, though some have clearly not learned the lessons. Let’s hope that Steelers fans don’t have to learn the hard way to be appreciative of what they’ve got

But if not, Chad Dukes told his Redskins listeners something that resonated with me. It was in response to the rising expectations of the team as well as a jab at fans of Eagles and Giants fans. Dukes stated something along the lines of “never devalue or underestimate simply being a ‘relevant’ team”. When I read fans complaining about a misused time out here or a playcall that didn’t work there… how the team has to slug it out as a #6 seed instead of a #3… I think about fans of teams that know their seasons are over by Week 2, whose teams are forgotten unless something controversial happens. I’d rather be the fan of a relevant team…and I am sure to remember that every week.
