However, because the situation will resolve itself by Saturday afternoon I will just mention a couple of reasons why I believe the Steelers won’t cut him, beyond all the plays and quality work Tyler Matakevich has shown this preseason.

1) Because of the public high phrase from his position coach and his head coach, other teams will now take a closer look at him if the Steelers put him on waivers, especially since Pittsburgh is known for identifying and developing linebackers. I believe I’ve heard the Steelers described as a linebacker factory. It’s true that everyone including the Steelers did not select him until the seventh round of the draft. But the fact remains that the Steelers did draft him.

2) Because Matakevich works very hard to study tape so he can read the offense’s intentions as they lineup for a play, I think the Steelers believe he has a whole lot of football savvy ‘above the neck’. The coaches know about where Johnson’s ceiling is, and where Fort’s ceiling probably is, but they may not be sure just how high up Matakevich’s ceiling is, which may not even be in sight yet. And that is why I think they will keep him amongst the 53 chosen ones. He could be a real long-time keeper, another low round draft pick which turns out very, very well for the team.

That said, now that I’ve made an actual prediction they’ll probably release him, nobody will claim him, and he’ll make it to the practice squad.

Tyler! Tyler! It’s always good to have a player that can, you know, tackle, which is sadly becoming a lost art. With all the short passes in the NFL these days that one on one stop has become crucial.

I’m pretty sure that’s the sort Jerald Hawkins has…

It is amazing how much better Landry jones looked. I’m guessing it’s a lot easier when the other guys you’re playing with know what they are doing…

Now I fear the possibility of losing him. He needs a minor injury so he can spend a season working on his athleticism on the IR. He appears to already have the mindset and understanding of the game. It is not too fast for him.

Has Tomlin giving Johnson a nickname as well? Is it a good one? If not then I feel sorry for Johnson but there are other teams in the league that could use him.

I loved the mandatory demand to cut Landry in the Dulac tweet thread. I would have a greed after the Eagles game but not after the Saints game. It was amazing to see how well he performed when with the ones. He may not be a great QB but I think he can be a game manager if he is on a strong team.
