Here We Go!

Let me describe it for you, because it is a thing of beauty and a joy forever:

Three Redskin fans sitting glumly, one holding his head in his hands in disbelief. Directly behind them, a Steeler fan stands, waves his Towel and cheers, and several other Steeler fans celebrate.

The only reason we had only 20% of the fans in attendance is that it was opening night, and Washington fans wouldn’t part with their tickets. So we had to wait till the fourth quarter for the traditional Stadium Takeover.

My nature is to control my optimism and ardor each season and I have done that despite the many positive signs of the preseason. Ivan’s recital of the missteps last night was almost jarring, as my mind had already glossed over them and was focused on the dominance displayed on both offense and defense. I am now quickly losing any desire to curb my enthusiasm. Despite the missteps, it was a dominant performance and our prospects are as bright as this morning’s sunshine.

The defense held and for the most part, the DBs kept the play in front of them. There were no sacks, but the blitzes were few. When was the last time you saw so many three man rushes? Amazing. The offense was nearly unstoppable – only a few mistakes stopping the pass game and nobody stopping Deangelo. Ben, AB and DeCastro showed why they’re paid the big bucks, turning in all pro performances.

Considering the fact we were missing Green, Wheaton, Bell and Dupree — I’m damn neat giddy. While there will certainly be challenges ahead, we came out smokin’ and the NFL is on notice that we are a force to be dealt with along the road to SB LI.

If Bell and Bryant were available would we be talking 40 points per game average?

It was well known the Skins couldn’t stop the run and it was suspected they wouldn’t be able to stop AB but who knew that Cousins couldn’t function against a well executed zone? Apparently, after the game, the Skins coach admitted they had been out-played and out-coached by the Steelers.
