Good point about the AFC North.

With this, I could get NFL RedZone (so occasional live coverage of the game at critical junctures), updates on NFL.com, and of course the BTSC ledge. Not having a full video feed means that I can’t really opine on what transpired in our defeat.

When I first checked in (mid-way through the first quarter), I had a feeling of deja vu, and not in a good way. The stench took me all the way back to……January 2012, and the day of The Tebow Reckoning. It just had that feeling. Going up against a crappy quarterback who somehow finds ways to keep drives going against you. The offense not being able to put long scoring drives together. Mistakes everywhere. Just a general sense of Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, and early in the game.

Did anybody else notice that it was Upside Down Day in the NFL? The vaunted Ravens defense gave up 44 points to….Blake Bortles. The Patriots* just about lost, having to rely on two Hail Mary passes in the last minute to win. Buffalo and the NY Jets BOTH won (with Denver and Miami losing). When was the last time that happened? Case Keenum put up 34 points on what is supposed to be a good Tampa Bay defense.

Of course, it occurs to me that Week 3 is when opposing coordinators have two full weeks of film on your team to dissect and spot flaws in your defense and offense. It looks like the Bears did just that to us and discovered that we were vulnerable on run defense. I wait for people smarter than I to find the particular flaw they picked on, but maybe this is why Week 3 this year is Upside Down Week.

Don’t forget Jordan Berry. The punter/holder had no business being where he was to make the play. That hustle was probably more surprising to me. Neither guy gave up on the play.

When will players realize they need to make it into the endzone to score a touchdown, not the 1 yard line?

My reaction was the same. And I agree completely with the missed calls. It just hurts the most because it changed the drive dramatically.

The two things I was really surprised with were the run defense which is usually pretty stout, and the offensive line (again). There are two silver linings to this, however:
-The rest of the AFC North lost.
-The only way to go from this game is up!

Add the run defense to “the appalling” list. Someone forgot to tell them the anthem was over.

I didn’t get to watch the game today with Ivan, PaVa and Homer like I normally do because my son’s team had pictures today. Very interested to see their takes.

The only two thoughts I have, one of which came to me during the game, was whether there were still players fighting the illness (whatever it was) that had been haunting the locker room the previous week and the second was whether the indecision about the protest was dividing the locker room.

You’re totally correct about the hold – I was screaming at the screen, which isn’t my style, “how is that not holding?!!!!!!!” Forgot to put that in there. But I suppose calls get missed every game. You just hate to see blatant misses that change the course of the game…

My 2 cents. We were ouplayed for a large part of the game.

I was not happy with 1 call during the game (the Heyward roughing the passer call was marginal, could have gone either way). It was actually a non call on a hold that broke the long run in overtime. I haven’t looked at the replay, but their defender completely turned around and pulled our guy away from the play, opening up the edge. Instead of 1st and 10 at the 37, it should have been 1st and 20 from about their 15.

those are my thoughts. On to next week.
