We have the depth to play a third tackle and talent to make him receiver eligible. Also with Nix & Connor in together that is still a passing formation.

Good points. Snell doesn’t seem ready yet. The more reps and some more training may make a world of difference but will it make a difference this season is in question. Maybe we will see a vet RB and a vet TE picked up before week 1.

I don’t know. Last year, when it was possible that Bell still might report, I wrote something or other along the lines of, “with Bell and Conner, the Steelers are Super Bowl contenders. Without Bell, the Steelers are a team that, if Conner were to get injured, might make the playoffs.”

Talk about times when you hate to be right.

While Jaylen Samuels delivered when Conner went down, he was an unknown commodity. And the last man standing between a re-tread and a practice squader being the “Next Man Up.” While he proved the stage wasn’t too big for him, the lack of backfield depth hurt the Steelers, no matter how you slice it.

Frankly, if Snell is the real deal and stays healthy and Samuels continues his arc from season 1 and stays healthy, the Steelers could weather an injury to Conner.

But those are two big “Ifs.”

During the Mike Tomlin era, the Steelers have struggled to keep RB No. 1 and RB No. 2 healthy all year long.

The last time they really did that, was 2010. In 2008 they didn’t do that, but they had solid depth behind RB No. 1 and RB No. 2.

Is probably place him and Vance as 2a and 2b.

Cliff_Harris_is_still_a_Punk (my bad if spelling is wrong) has a great analysis of Okorafor’s play in game 2 on the main page of BTSC. I recommend it.

I don’t think there was that much of a talent gap between Bell and Connor but I do think there is enough of a talent gap between Connor and the rest of the RBs to leave a very discernible difference. As per usual, I will admit I may be wrong. It certainly happens often enough.

If the Steelers end up trading Dobbs, I wouldn’t be surprised if it isn’t for TE depth (I keep thinking Rudolph fits the Steelers Offence better). Atm, I think QB is our deepest position, followed by WR. So if there is to be a trade, I would expect it to be from there. If a WR was traded, I wouldn’t be surprised if it is Moncrief or Rodgers if only because they are known commodities, which gives them trade value, whose skills are available in other players.
